Laundry Softener Smells Like Flowers

This wildly successful guerrilla ad for Lenor laundry softeners in Romania replaced the flower pots at florist stands along Bucharest’s most traveled street with Lenor bottles, letting consumers know that the softener smells as pretty as the flowers. Unlike a lot of guerrilla promotions, this wasn’t confrontational at all, and actually brightened up a lot of people’s days, according to a survey taken soon after the promotion was unveiled. Too often, I think, guerrilla marketing is used negatively–Lenor’s example reminds us that this kind of promotion doesn’t have to shock to be effective. What are some other methods of “positive interference” that make up a successful guerrilla promotion?

Imagine how different the reaction would have been if they had just left a giant pile of dirty clothes in the middle of the street–I for one would have run in the other direction!

Market Research: Unified Communications Market Revenue to Top $87 Billion Over Five Years

BOONTON, N.J. /Advertising Industry Newswire/ — The enterprise market for unified communications (UC) is expected to generate nearly $87 billion in revenue worldwide over the next five years, according to a new market research study from The Insight Research Corporation. “Ironically, it is the very diversity of these access mechanisms that has rendered the task of finding a particular individual all the more cumbersome-as the calling party is forced to try multiple access options to check on the availability of the called party,” says Robert Rosenberg, Insight Research president. “As a result, precious time is spent tracing the individual, slowing down interaction and allowing inefficiency to creep into the communications process-and it is precisely this dilemma that UC tackles. This market has one of the strongest growth trajectories in the enterprise communications sector,” Rosenberg concluded.

Insight’s report slices the market into three segments: solutions or platforms, services, and carrier revenues. The solutions or platform revenue is further disaggregated by its hardware versus software component. Each of the three market segments are further broken down by the whether the solution is provided on a dedicated or a hosted basis, and the carrier revenue forecast is disaggregated by wireline and wireless as well as by geographical regions.

Hold the Hair Handles, Please

Am I the only one surprised by the fact that I am being compelled to speak out against hair-based promotional advertising for the fifth time this year. Am I being overly sensitive? Is there no other way to illustrate that your shampoo’s special proteins and natural additives makes hair stronger and fuller? Maybe someone would be intrigued by a hair handle the first time they see one, but is anyone eager to hold onto one while cruising across town after they’ve been hanging in the bus for a few months? Speaking of which, after some wear and tear, what kind of impression are these going to be making?

The Holiday Expo in Vegas was great!

Last week I was at our Holiday & Incentive Expo in Las Vegas and was amazed at how many people were at the Education Day on Tuesday, over 500 people attended the full day of education sessions. Each session I sat in on was jammed, it was great to see people taking the time to invest in their future success.

One of the sessions I sat in on pointed out the 10 most common pitfalls distributors fall into by David Blaise, this was a great session not only did he point out the most common mistakes we make but provided ways to be proactive and not make these mistakes.

Another great session was with Cliff Quicksell, one of the topics was what things we should focus on with our websites – Video is in! He also reviewed a recent study by B2B Magazine about what’s most important to buyers today. But what I found most shocking was at one point Cliff asked how many distributors send a thank-you gift to clients after an order is delivered – less than 5% of the people in the room put up their hand! I sure hope this was because people had been playing the slot machines the night before and their arms were sore!

The Wednesday was a buzz on the show floor aisles were full of people looking for the newest ideas and special offers from the suppliers exhibiting.

We also made an exciting announcement about a new show being added to the 2010 schedule – San Diego, CA. A popular destination featuring beautiful weather and a fun atmosphere, San Diego was voted as a top choice for a trade show by ASI membership.
